National & Local PlanningLocal planning affects everyone and the Group has members with considerable planning experience and is able to respond to local planning proposals effectively. It is very important that planning policies and proposals adopted take account of environmental issues, especially climate change mitigation and adaptation. Resource Use Reduction and Waste MinimisationREFUSE REUSE REPAIR REDUCE RECYCLE We promote recycling, but more importantly use reduction and re-use of resources. The Group actively promotes composting. Growing Food with Schools ProjectOur "Growing foods with Schools Project" has been set up to encourage local schools to grow organically their own vegetables and fruit that can then be used in the school kitchen. We offer a package of advice, practical assistance and small grants for seeds, plants, tools, etc. If any school is interested, please get in touch. TransportThe Group supports increased public transport that is safe, affordable, clean & reliable, incentives to car-pool, stagger work start/finish times; measures that will encourage people to use their cars less and encourage businesses to transport goods by train, canal, etc. Transportation of people and goods is vital for the social and economic well-being of the country, we are striving to ensure that it happens in a sustainable way that delivers environmental justice and protection for the present and the future. |
![]() EducationPresentations and workshops about climate change, resource use and how Friends of the Earth's goal of environmental justice fits with citizenship are just a few examples of our activities in this area. We welcome all opportunities to engage with young people on environmental issues. Green Trade JusticeTrade will not be just until it:- -gives everyone an equal voice -protects our environment -ensures rules for big business and rights for people. Current trade under the World Trade Organisation (WTO) is widening gaps between rich and poor, stripping rights from people and plundering the Planet's natural resources. We campaign for trade rules that rebalance global trade in flavour of local communities and their governments. Governments should have the right to decide their own trade policies to protect people and the environment from destruction and abuse. | ||||||||
